All components are reusable.
How Bokashi Composting Works
Bokashi composting uses an anaerobic fermentation process to stabilize food waste inside a sealed container. Food scraps are layered with Bokashi and placed in the bucket, which is then closed with an airtight lid.
After fermentation, the material can be removed from the bucket and managed according to the user’s composting or disposal preferences.
About SD Microbes Bokashi
SD Microbes Bokashi is produced using fermented grain-based materials and is intended for use in Bokashi-style composting systems.
System Options
SD Microbes Bokashi Composting Systems are offered in multiple sizes and configurations, including:
-
Single-bucket systems

Intended Use
This product is intended for use as a household or garden composting system.
No Spigot by Design
This system does not include a spigot — and that’s intentional.
Bokashi is a fermentation process, not traditional composting. For fermentation to work properly, the material must stay as anaerobic (low-oxygen) as possible. Every time air enters the bucket, it slows fermentation and can cause odors and spoiled leachate.
Buckets with spigots are prone to leaking air through the valve, which is why they require daily draining to prevent the liquid from going bad.
By eliminating the spigot, our bucket:
-
Maintains a tighter anaerobic seal
-
Produces cleaner, more stable fermentation
-
Eliminates daily draining and maintenance
-
Reduces odor and mess
When the process is complete, any liquid can simply be poured off when you empty the bucket — cleaner, easier, and far more effective.
This is how Bokashi was originally designed to work.
